Mike Hammer has had a wide-ranging career, with trading and investing as a continuing theme. Mike graduated from UC Berkeley with a business degree, then worked with Macy's in their operations arm. He left Macy's and spent a summer trading his own account, which taught him a lot about trading in general and markets in particular. Trading through the Black Monday and the Crash of 1987 showed him how most people are unprepared for upheavals in their trading. He then joined Waddell & Reed as a financial advisor, helping regular people understand their finances and meet their life goals.

Then came the usual story - Mike met and married the lady of his dreams. They moved to upstate New York, where Mike worked first for a small manufacturing consulting company, then Cornell University. While loving the work and the higher-education atmosphere, Mike missed the world of finance. Eventually, he signed up for stock trading coaching with the Adam Mesh Trading Group, to learn from people who understood modern markets. Within a year, Adam asked Mike to become a stock trading coach.

Since then, Mike has trained over 200 individuals, spoke at several national conventions, and is a frequent contributor to conference calls across the Adam Mesh community. Mike writes The Gold Enthusiast daily newsletter, runs the Golden Hammer trading service, and participates in the Mesh Private Portfolio. He also keeps a position in international education which keep him in touch with "the student mindset". Mike closely follows the gold, energy, and financial sectors. His motto is "Plan your trade, then trade your plan!"

Yesterday, the CFTC approved the first “trading speed bump” for US silver and gold futures markets. Normally this might only get a mention as a feature article by your friendly Gold Enthusiast, but as you will see there are some points that bear attention, and possibly even – perish the thought – deeper thinking. 4 Reasons Why Silver Has Been Dropping

Silver bulls have been confounded lately by the metal’s inability to get up off the floor and run.  There are lots of reasons why silver should go higher.  After all, we are at prices only slightly higher than they were after fallback from the Hunt brothers trying to corner the silver market back in 1980. You’d think […]

Gold Retakes 1300 Amid Rising Uncertainty

As you know, gold dropped down through 1300 two weeks ago.  That gave gold bulls a mild heart attack because the story for gold rising includes a little bit about “rising.”  Not “falling.”  A touch of a difference there. And 1300 is a key pivot point for gold; it can’t go up without staying above 1300 (just to drive […]

Gold News: US Mint Runs Out Of Silver

Yesterday in gold news, the US Mint notified “authorized purchasers” (only in quotes because it sounds weird) that it has run out of silver coins.  “…[D]ue to recent increased demand”, they say.  To these old, grizzled Gold Enthusiast ears, that just sounds wrong.  For several reasons. Number one: Isn’t silver gold’s poor cousin?  Aren’t the only people who […]

Gold News: A Confused Swirl

Following gold news these days is like living in a dust devil.  It appears and disappears, and when it appears, it’s swirling around with no consistency.
